The book generates a real interest of the readers because it approaches fundamental problems in relation to which most human beings are preoccupied. It deals with questions concerning the origins of the universe and of the humankind but also with the most appropriate answers to those questions. In the book are compared different solutions which are given by multiple areas of human activity to the problem of beginnings. The origins of the cosmos and of humankind are discussed under the lights of philosophy, science and religion. The first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis from the Bible are analysed verse by verse from the point of view of their consistency and in comparison with the real life. The first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis contain countless contradictions and absurdities which are debated in different themes. Nevertheless, the book contains much more than that and this more is a thorough analyse of the logical consequences of the biblical narratives which are the object of the investigation and their influence on the everyday life in Western societies. If you read the book you will understand better what religion is and which its foundations are.
The first chapter is an introduction which questions the inspiration of the Bible and tries to establish connections between rationality and revelation, religion and rationality, revelation and science, religious authority and science and refers to the authorship of the book of Genesis. The second chapter shows that it is a characteristic feature of the book of Genesis to present a reversed order of creation. Everything which would have been created by God would have been realized with the effects before the causes and that gives a clear sign that the authors of the first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis didn’t know how the reality works. The causes for the events described by the first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis are false, they are pure imagination intended to explain events which were predetermined by the mythological ends followed by the writers hence there isn’t a logical determination between causes and effects. Why the man exists, why the woman exists, why the woman is seen as inferior to man or why there is evil in the world are predetermined themes to which fictitious explanations were found.
The chapter 2 of the book shows how the stories of the book of Genesis intertwine with mythology and why almost all its assertions can be considered to be nonsensical. The details presented by the first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis are in such a way described that if they were true it would have been impossible for those events to exist. Not only that the effects happened before causes but the conditions of the possibility of existence of the events described by the first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis are contrary to all probabilities hence the stories are absurd. The creation of heavens, creation of the earth and of the solar system, creation of light before the sun, creation of the stars, sun and moon all of them contains contradictions. There are also contradictions about the creation of plants, contradictions about the creation of animals and many other contradictions. In the first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis there are two stories of the creation and two stories of the Flood and both versions of each story contradict each other. Chapter 3 contains theological consequences for everyone who believes in God but doesn’t give credit anymore to the biblical narratives of creation and other texts of the Bible and chapter 4 encloses conclusions.
Once convinced that the stories of creation and the stories of the Flood are the expression of a mythological approach of reality missing the true facts and real history one cannot rationally keep the same dogmatic faith in God. One can believe in God but discard completely the reality of the first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis but in this case his or her belief cannot be shaped by the old dogmas and religious doctrines. When something is removed something else has to be set in place. In this case the solution is a theology which is based on factual truth in the way in which this is disclosed by the science in order to set a rational foundation of one’s faith in accordance with reality. We are entitled to believe in God on the basis of our personal experience with Him keeping in the same time the respect due to science and rationality.
God’s revelation in nature. God had revealed Himself in the origins and structure of the universe and also through the vegetal and animal nature. Nature is a revelation in no way inferior to the written Bible and revelation in nature can be better understood from the study of nature than from the biblical texts
